Speed Portraits at the Larkspur Party

The Larkspur Party

This last weekend I went to the Larkspur Party up in Raleigh, NC and it was beautiful!
Thank you everyone who was able to make it along.

So what happened there? I am glad you asked. I went out on a limb and decided to try out some speed portraits, and I am so glad I did.

here were the rules...
One beautiful garden.
45 minutes.
One sitter.
One very uncertain painter.

Bam. A speed portrait was born. Then another, and another, and another. And in the end they turned out great. I have gained so much confidence in  painting in uncontrolled environments, faces I have never seen before, and with a crowd of people gathering around.
I also had a number of people ask for me to come up there again to do some more. interested? Let me know and I'll happily indulge in my new favourite sport.

The colours in this lovely ladies skin were real exciting to paint.

rule #1 - you have to be prepared to stop at any given time.
rule #2 - you have to get a likeness
rule #3 - stop worrying
